North Carolina, Raleigh – After the announcement by longtime democrat and congressman David Price he would not seek reelection at least 8 democrats have announced their intention to run.

Currently, State Senator Wiley Nickel, State Senator Valerie Foushee, Durham County Commissioner Nida Allam, Dr. Richard Watkins, Duke Professor Ashley Ward, North Carolina Central University professor Stephen Valentine, Nathan Click, and, as of Monday, former American Idol contestant Clay Aiken have launched their campaigns and began fundraising.

The self-reporting numbers

While candidate financial reports are not yet public, the self-reporting numbers published on social media are as follows;

Wiley Nickel - $515,000

Nida Allam  - $300,000

Valarie Foushee - $142,000

"Thrilled by the level of support"

“Our team is thrilled by the level of support we’ve received over the past few months,” said Abby May, Campaign Manager for Wiley Nickel for Congress, in a press release.

“The voters truly appreciate Wiley’s hard work during his two terms in the North Carolina Senate, and they want him to fill David Price’s shoes in Congress. Wiley has raised far more than any other candidate in this race. It’s really incredible to see.”

With the primary expected to take place on May 17, there are still several months of campaigning and fundraising to go.
