Enlace Latino NC seeks a Community Engagement Manager to join our North Carolina-based Spanish news organization, serving the state’s Latino immigrant community. As we enter our sixth year of operation, this role is crucial for strengthening our trust-based relationship with our audience, understanding and addressing their needs, promoting diversity, enhancing content quality, and ensuring the growth and sustainability of our media organization. Our public service journalism won +15 awards for filling a critical informational void, rigorously identifying formats that meet our audience where they’re at, and setting a precedent for how local news can best serve Spanish-speaking immigrants. In 2022, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists named Enlace Latino NC the best Spanish digital news site in the U.S.
About this position
Essential Duties
- Identify and contact potential partners who can help further the organization’s goals through activities like researching organizations, attending community events, and networking.
- Identify and contact potential news media partners who can help advance strategic objectives. These partners include traditional outlets like news agencies, radio stations, podcasts, newspapers, magazines, and television to explore collaborative opportunities to distribute messages and activities to the public. Networking with the press aims to increase awareness of mission and priorities among target audiences.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders through in-person meetings, phone calls, emails, and social media (with assistance from the Social Media Coordinator). Aim to understand partner needs/interests and find ways in which the organization can provide value.
- Organize and attend community events, forums, and sessions to raise awareness of work and build new relationships. Create and implement a strategic community engagement plan outlining target partners, goals, tactics, and metrics to measure success.
- Provide updates to leadership on community engagement efforts. Stay informed on community news, issues, and events to identify support and engagement opportunities with the Latino community in North Carolina.
- Develop project plans and schedules by identifying goals, creating work breakdown structures, identifying tasks/milestones, assigning resources, and setting deadlines.
- Support the Operations Manager with project coordination by assigning and monitoring project team tasks, documenting project details, and helping develop activity reports to keep stakeholders informed.
Qualifications & Skill Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, community development or related fields.
- At least 2 years of experience in community outreach, volunteer management, public relations or a related role.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Spanish. The ability to interact comfortably and build relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience developing and implementing community engagement strategies, including planning and organizing community events.
- Experience recruiting, training and managing a team of volunteers.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of North Carolina’s Latino community and key issues affecting Latinos in the state.
- Strong commitment to Enlace Latino NC’s mission of empowering and informing North Carolina’s Latino immigrant community through branding awareness. Hands-on, flexible and collaborative approach to achieve Enlace Latino NC’s community engagement and outreach goals.
- Familiarity with software such as Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and CRM systems is expected.
- Experience working in immigrant-serving independent media and/or non-profit and grassroots organizations is a plus
- Great interpersonal communication, problem-solving, excellent organizational skills and work independently when needed.
- Able to tackle challenges constructively and find creative ways to excel.

The Community Engagement Manager must possess strong public relations skills. The manager must have excellent oral and written communication skills. This position also requires exceptional organization and follow-through skills. In addition, the Community Engagement Manager must maintain confidential information, be politically astute, and demonstrate a strong professional demeanor.

Compensation & Values
The Community Engagement Manager position is a full time position, with $50,000-$60, 000 based on the experience.
For the first six months, this is a contract position. Afterward, it will transition to full-time and become part of the Enlace Latino NC staff, with the complete benefits package that ELNC offers to its full-time employees.

Location
Enlace Latino NC is based in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Community Engagement Manager position is hybrid, and the candidate should be able to travel. We invite candidates based in the Piedmont region and Coastal Plain of North Carolina (with particular attention to the Triangle Region) to apply.
