About the Role
Enlace Latino NC is seeking a fully bilingual (Spanish-English) freelance journalist based in Western North Carolina to report on community issues and stories in Jackson and Macon counties. This role is ideal for a journalist who is passionate about community-centered reporting and serving Latino audiences through accurate, accessible, and culturally responsive journalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Report and write original, community-focused stories relevant to Jackson and Macon counties.
- Produce a total of 5 articles (minimum) over the contract period.
- Conduct interviews with community members, local leaders, and organizations.
- Create content that is clear, engaging, and accessible for Spanish-speaking audiences.
- Maintain accuracy, cultural competence, and ethical reporting standards.
- Meet agreed-upon deadlines and communicate regularly with editors.
Compensation
- $700 per article (approximately 5 articles total; no more than $5,000 for the full contract period)
Qualifications
- Fluency in Spanish and English (written and spoken)
- Experience in journalism, reporting, or a related field
- Strong storytelling and interviewing skills
- Must be based in Western North Carolina, and have familiarity with Latino communities in the covered counties.
- Commitment to serving Latino communities through inclusive, community-centered journalism
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote environment
