If you are planning to obtain your U.S. passport for the first time, or if it has been lost, stolen, or damaged, mark your calendar for the Passport Fair.

Hosted by the Wake County Property Registry, the event will take place on Monday, April 29, in Room 100 from the Wake County Commons Building, 4011 Carya Drive, Raleigh. The hours will be from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm

The Passport Fair is open to the public and no appointment is necessary.

“We look forward to providing a smooth, stress-free way for people to navigate the passport application process,” said Tammy Brunner of the Wake County Land Registry.

"Our passport unit staff, along with additional employees, will be available to ensure a smooth and convenient experience," she said in a press release.

Passports will not be issued on site

Passports will not be issued on site, but staff will send your applications and documents to the US Department of State.

Currently, passports routinely take about eight weeks to process (plus mailing time).

There are expedited processing and delivery options. More information is available at travel.state.gov. This is the first large-scale Passport Fair the office has held since the opening of its Passport Acceptance Center in 2022.

Smaller events held in county regional centers have been very popular, with venues filling up within two or three days.

Requirements

To be able to participate in the Passport Fair, you must belong to at least one of the following categories:

• Apply for your first US passport.
• Be younger than 16 years.
• Your previous passport:
  • It was issued when he was under 16 years old.
  • It was processed more than 15 years ago.
  • It has been lost, stolen or damaged.

If you need to renew your current passport, you can do so by mail. The information is available at travel.state.gov.

What do you have to bring? 

It is essential that you bring all the necessary documents, so check that you have everything before you come.

On the Registry of Deeds website you will find a complete checklist.

• Un passport application form .
• Proof of US citizenship: birth certificate, expired passport, or certificate of naturalization. If you were born in North Carolina, you can pick up a copy of your birth certificate at the vital records office.
• Proof of identity – driver’s license, military service card, or other government-issued ID.
• Passport photo – you can bring your own or have one taken at the fair for $12. A list of photo requirements can be found at travel.state.gov.
• Passport payment: You can find a complete list of the passport costs here. Please note that some of these fees can only be paid by check or money order.
