North Carolina, Charlotte. – Obtaining a U.S. passport will be easier in Mecklenburg County, with the new “acceptance” office that the city of Charlotte opened today, Tuesday, March 7, at the Government Center in Uptown.
This new downtown office is more convenient for many Mecklenburg County residents who need a passport to travel abroad, as the closest office is located northeast of Charlotte, at least 20 minutes from Uptown.
Will reduce document waiting time
Currently, it takes the State Department about 8 to 11 weeks to process the passport application, in addition to the time it takes to obtain the appointment needed to submit the application, which can take an additional 14 days.
According to local government officials, the main reason an application can be rejected is because it was not filled out properly, which is why they recommend that you review it twice before submitting the application.
Information about the new Uptown office
The new passport office, the second of its kind in the city, will be located in the Clerk Office of the government building, located at 600 East 4th Street, Suite 9, Charlotte, NC 28202.

How much does the passport cost
The “blue” passport has a cost for first-time adults of $130 plus a $35 execution fee. You can also apply for the “passport card” option, which costs $30 plus $35. If both documents are desired, the cost is $160 plus the $35 execution fee. The renewal value is $130.
For those under 16, the passport costs $100 plus a $35 execution fee. The passport card costs $15.
People who need to obtain a passport faster must pay $60 more to speed up the process by a few weeks.
