How to apply for food stamps?

Step 1: Eligibility

The first step is to verify if the household is eligible to receive this type of help. To be eligible, you must be a citizen of the United States or a legal resident of the country through some type of visa. Additionally, the person must have a social security number or at least have applied to receive one and be awaiting confirmation. Living in North Carolina is also essential. 

On the other hand, there are requirements linked to the maximum household income, since food stamps in North Carolina are intended for low-income individuals and families.

There are 3 options through which you can apply for the food stamp program in North Carolina.

2. In person at a DSS office
3. Send the application via Postal Mail to the DSS
