Duke Health is an academic and healthcare system, which has two hospital campuses located in Durham, Duke university hospital y Duke Regional Hospital.

Do they provide care to people without health insurance?

Under federal law (EMTALA), Duke Health does not deny emergency treatment at its hospitals even if it does not have health insurance.

Do they have financial aid programs?

Duke Health offers financial assistance Patients who qualify, according to federal poverty guidelines, will receive assistance. Financial counselors at the hospital can also help you assess your eligibility for financial resources.

Located on the sixth floor of Duke Regional Hospital is the Select Specialty Hospital, A 30-bed critical care recovery hospital. To contact Select Specialty Hospital, call (984) 569-4040. 

Select Specialty Hospital's services are separate from Duke Health, and are covered by most insurance companies, including Medicare.

Uninsured patients undergoing elective procedures must apply for Medicaid before receiving services. The following discounts will be provided according to state regulations and consistently to uninsured and underinsured individuals:

  • 100% discount for people with incomes below 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL).
  • Discount of at least 75% for people with incomes between 200% and 250% of the FPL.
  • Discount of at least 50% for people with incomes between 250% and 300% of the FPL.
  • Discount of at least 25% for people with incomes less than 300% of the FPL.
