People in Raleigh who need low-cost dental cleanings can access services at the Wake Technical Community College Dental Hygiene Clinic, which currently offers affordable care.
The program allows adults, teenagers, and children from the age of 4 to receive dental hygiene care as part of the practical training of students in the dental hygiene program.
Available services include dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, and x-rays, depending on the needs of each patient.
Preliminary evaluation to determine the treatment
Before starting treatment, patients must attend an evaluation appointment, in which the type of care they need will be determined and whether they qualify to receive treatment at the clinic.
These evaluation appointments usually last between one and two hours and may include x-rays if the professional deems it necessary.
Subsequent dental cleaning appointments can last between three and four hours per visit, as it is a supervised educational process. On average, patients may require between two and five visits to complete the treatment.
If the evaluation reveals a need for other types of dental care, patients will receive referrals for additional care outside the clinic.

Service is by appointment only and hours may vary depending on the academic semester.
In addition, the clinic establishes some important rules for patients:
