Medicine bottles and tablets to illustrate article about where you can get free medicine in North Carolina

North Carolina, Charlotte  – Getting free or low-cost medications is possible in North Carolina, thanks to programs that assist low-income people without health insurance.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) offers the Medication Assistance Program (MAP).

This program is offered in free clinics and participating charities, community health centers, and rural health centers that provide access to free and low-cost medications through pharmaceutical companies for low-income, uninsured, and unaffordable patients.

The MAP offers free prescription medications, and provides a directory to find the nearest clinic.

In many of these sites it is not required to have immigration documents to receive medications, but it is advisable to verify the requirements by contacting the site directly.

For more information about how you can get free medications in North Carolina and the list of medications that are part of the Program, visit the MAP website.

The NC MedAssist Program  for free medicines

In addition to the MAP, there is NC MedAssist,  which is a free statewide pharmacy program. The program provides prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications. It is intended for North Carolina residents who do not have health insurance, lack access to Medicare  o Medicaid , nor private insurance. Individuals with incomes below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level are eligible.

To qualify for prescription medications, patients must reside in North Carolina.

MedAssist regularly organizes Mobile Free Pharmacy Events. At these events, it distributes bags of medicines without cough prescription, the flu, the allergy, pain, vitamins, for low-income adults and children.

Medicines for mobile events can be ordered in advance through the website. It is recommended to do so due to the high demand that free medicines have.
