North Carolina, Raleigh –  When migrants try to cross the United States border, they expose themselves to many dangers, which is why many of them go to Santo Toribio Romo due to the belief that it helps undocumented migrants cross the border and find work.

Currently, Santo Toribio is venerated in a chapel in his hometown, Santa Ana de Guadalupe, located in the municipality of Jalostotitlán in Jalisco.

The region of Los Altos de Jalisco where Toribio Romo was born is characterized by the tradition of migration to the United States since the end of the 19th century.

Prayer of migrants

And in addition to entrusting themselves to Santo Toribio, they also pray the migrants' prayer:

Traveling towards You Lord, that is living,
Leaving is a bit like dying,
Arriving is never arriving definitively until I rest in You.

You, Lord, knew migration,
And you made it present to every man who understands what it is to live,
And he wants to arrive safely at the port of life.

You brought Abraham, father of all believers, out of his land.
You remembered what the paths were to reach You,
By the prophets and the apostles
You yourself became a Migrant from heaven to earth,
In the womb of your Mother barely conceived,
In your hasty flight to Egypt, sowing along the roads,
The Gospel, multiplying bread, healing the sick,

And returning to the Father in your ascension.
Grant us unshakable faith, confident and joyful hope,
Ardent and generous charity, to emigrate with peace in the soul
And come to You every day and the last day.

Amen.

Prayer to Santo Toribio Romo

Glorious martyr and miracle worker; You are the guide and protector of migrants. Intercede for all who are making a journey this day, those escaping violence and poverty, and especially those in danger.

Stay with them and protect them from all evil, come to the aid of the most vulnerable and those who are suffering.

We implore you to obtain for them a happy ending to their trips, and peace of mind, both for them and their loved ones.
