Relatives of a young Honduran who is hospitalized in critical condition after suffering a car crash In Charlotte, they are asking the community for help with their medical expenses and medicines through the Gofundme platform.
The young man, Alan Ariel Melgar Díaz, 26, remains in intensive care and according to information from his sister Lesli Melgar, who started the fundraiser, he lost one of his eyes, had a punctured lung, and suffered kidney damage and serious head injuries.
Alan is originally from the town of Lagunas del Pedernal, department of Lempira, in Honduras.
Lesli wrote on Gofundme: “We ask that you help us with a donation, whatever you want to give. We will be very grateful, God bless you.” She also said that Alan “is a very hard-working, very humble and friendly young man.”
The fundraising goal is $20,000, but to date $919 has been donated by 15 donors.

Fatal accident
The accident occurred early Wednesday morning, October 16, at 600 Archdale Drive between Interstate 77, Nations Ford and Old Pineville Road.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), Alan was traveling with Ever Elizandro Castillo Guardado, 22, who lost his life after the truck they were traveling in crashed into a tree.
Police reported that there were three people in the truck and that the driver, who is also in critical condition and has not been identified, lost control and swerved to the left side of the road, hitting the tree.
According to authorities, excessive speed and the influence of alcohol “were likely contributing factors to this accident,” added to the fact that none of the occupants of the truck were wearing a seatbelt.
The injured were taken to Atrium Main Hospital in downtown Charlotte.
They collect money for the transfer of the body
Castillo Guardado's relatives also started a Gofundme fundraiser, in order to be able to move the body to his home country of Honduras. The family has raised $1,020, of a goal of $7,500.
