“After the Storm” is a special of Enlace Latino Podcast commemorating the first anniversary of Hurricane Helene, honoring the resilience of the Latino community in the mountains of western North Carolina.

A year ago, western North Carolina changed forever. The destruction left by Hurricane Helene was so extensive that, twelve months later, many families are just beginning to recover.

In this first episode, we relive the night of the storm and the days that followed with two families from our Latino community who lost their homes in the flood.

Their stories show what thousands of people in the region have experienced: making poorly informed decisions, being left homeless, and facing disaster in a country not their own.
