A group of Colombians living in the Charlotte area announced the creation of the Colombian American Chamber of Commerce of the Carolinas (CACC).
The group, which has been working on different initiatives In favor of his compatriots in the region, he took a step forward with the formation of the CACC.
Its newly formed board of directors announced that the articles of incorporation were recently approved by the North Carolina Secretary of State. Additionally, they mentioned that it is already registered with the IRS to operate as a nonprofit organization with the 501(c)(3) designation.
Seeks to unite the Colombian business and entrepreneur community
According to Fredy Romero, one of the members of the board of directors of what is now officially called “CACC of the Carolinas”, the idea of forming the chamber of commerce arose after the call by some Colombian foundations based in Carolina. of the North, to Colombian businessmen and entrepreneurs carried out through social networks.
This call brought together nearly 20 businesspeople on January 200 in Charlotte and 30 more who joined virtually from Durham.
“After many hours of work and conversations with several Colombian businessmen who attended the meeting, we have decided to create our own chamber of commerce,” Romero said in a video on Facebook.
Response to businessmen
The chamber is the response of Colombian businessmen to solve some specific needs of Colombian immigrants residing in North Carolina and South Carolina.
As well as supporting the request to have a Colombian consulate in Charlotte , which was made public on July 20, 2023 during the Colombian Festival before Ambassador Luis Guillermo Murillo, and which has already obtained more than 5,000 signatures.
Among the members of the board of the new chamber, in addition to Romero, are Natalia Silva and Karol Cortés, who are founders of the Colombian Festival, Zuly Tellez, Daniela Serrano and Lennin Caro.
“We now have a Colombian chamber of commerce to support us and have better opportunities,” said Pilar Rocha-Goldberg, president of the Centro Hispano organization in Raleigh and Durham.
Promote the training and business development of Colombians
They also indicated that they are interested in contributing to the creation of opportunities and training of various kinds.
These initiatives range from commercial, academic and cultural, among others, for Colombians who currently reside in these states, as well as for those who live on Colombian soil, and need information to develop businesses, carry out exchanges and other purposes in the United States.
“We are currently continuing efforts to start our operations and it has been very pleasant to have the early support of many businessmen and public and private organizations in both the United States and Colombia to achieve our goals,” it is indicated.
