North Carolina, Charlotte – Colombians who reside abroad will be able to exercise their right to vote this Sunday, March 13.
During these votes, fellow citizens will be able to elect members of Congress. They will also vote for the presidential consultation to choose the candidates who will go to the presidential elections in May.
Colombians who have the registered ID To vote, they will be able to do so at the consular headquarters from today, Monday, March 7, until March 13, while in the different cities where the voting stations will be located, they will have the opportunity to vote only on Sunday.
More than 1 voting stations
According to the National Registry of Civil Status, of the almost 5 million Colombians who live outside their country, a total of 908,566 Colombians are authorized to vote abroad during legislative elections and interparty consultations.
In consulates and embassies and authorized points in 67 countries, 1,251 voting tables will be installed in 250 positions.
The Registrar's Office indicated that, abroad, Colombians will be able to choose an electoral card to vote for the Senate of the Republic, either for the National or Indigenous Constituency; and an electoral card for the House of Representatives between the International, Indigenous or Afro-descendant Constituency.
They may also ask the voting jury for one of the three electoral cards to vote for interparty consultations.
Documents that Colombians abroad can use to vote
The identity documents with which you can vote are: lto yellow card with holograms or digital card , whether physical or on a mobile device (only for digital ID).
It should be noted that the passport, password, military booklet, among other documents, are not valid when voting.
In the event that a Colombian cannot vote on March 13, they can do so during this week at the consular headquarters.
Chamber of Representatives of Colombians abroad
Colombians living abroad have the power to elect a candidate who will represent them in the House of Representatives for the next 4 years.
The current representative of Colombians abroad is Juan David Vélez, from the Democratic Center, who won this constituency in the 2018 elections.

This time there are 10 political parties and a coalition that have a list of “preferred” candidates for this race, with a total of 22 candidates who are represented by three-digit numbers on the card: Vote for the House of Representatives-International Constituency and they are the following:

For the Senate of the Republic

Colombians abroad will also be able to choose a candidate for the Senate from 16 political parties and coalitions.
On the card there are 8 political parties with a “preferred list” of candidates, and another 8 parties and coalitions with “non-preferred” lists, that is, they do not have a list of candidates, only the logo that represents them. The card is dark blue.
There is also the “blank vote” option.

presidential consultation
On this occasion there are three coalitions of candidates who choose to govern the country, made up of different parties with similar ideologies that have decided to join forces in search of the country's presidency.
For each coalition there are five presidential candidates, who, together with seven independent candidates, make a total of 22 preliminary candidates.
In order to reduce this number, Colombians will be able to choose the candidates who advance to the first round of the presidential elections that will take place abroad from May 23 to 29.
The three coalitions are:
- Team for Colombia: center-right coalition (light blue card)
- Hope Center Coalition: centrist coalition (light green card)
- Historical Pact: composed of political parties and social movements with ideologies different from those of traditional political parties (orange card)
On March 29, the registration process will close for Colombians abroad who have not yet registered to vote. They will be able to do so at the consular headquarters to be able to vote in the presidential elections that will be on May 29.
