The tool to obtain a Colombian passport online for renewals and duplicates of the current valid passport can be found on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs/ELNC website.

Colombians now have an online tool that allows them to renew or obtain a duplicate of their passport, without having to make an appointment at any of the 12 consulates in the United States. 

This is a relief for many Colombians who have difficulty schedule Quote in the online system that currently exists in the consular network, both for carrying out a procedure at the consular headquarters and for the mobile visits carried out by the consulates.  

But obtaining a passport online does not apply in all cases, as explained by Andrea Paola Rojas Charry, in charge of consular functions at the Colombian Consulate in Atlanta (Georgia). 

“We always inform our citizens that they can process it online as long as the last renewal was done after 2017,” the consul said. Enlace Latino NC.  

This online option does not apply to Colombians who are getting their passport for the first time.  

where to do it

The tool to complete this process online is located in the Foreign Ministry portal However, the option does not appear on their home page or in any of the passport issuance options tabs. 

To find the option, enter the following in the search bar: Online Passport Application  and a page will appear explaining under what circumstances a passport can be issued online.

Requirements for processing a passport online 

To complete the online passport application process, certain requirements must be met, including: 

  • Be of legal age and holder of a valid electronic ordinary or electronic executive passport, issued after November 17, 2017. 
  • Having had successful biometric authentication in the process of issuing the previous valid passport. 
  • Due to voluntary change
  • For damage that prevents its use
  • When the pages of the current passport are full or when the remaining pages are not sufficient. 
  • Due to theft or loss

Delivery of the passport

The consul clarified To collect your passport, which could take two weeks to arrive at the consular office, you need to go to the consulate in person to claim it, with the advantage of NOT having to make an appointment. 

He also said that "passports take approximately 15 days to arrive at the consulate."

The Foreign Ministry's website indicates that passport delivery will be done in a in person at the consular office  selected at the time of making the online application , for which the user must:

  • Bring your previous valid passport (except when the reason for the change is due to theft or loss).
  • Present the original document of the valid identity card in a valid format.
  • If you do not have the ID card because it is in the process of being processed, you can present the password of the ID card application, whether for the first time, or for a duplicate or renewal. 

*Please note that passwords will not be accepted for requests to correct national identity cards.

Payment method

The ordinary passport costs $82, which can be paid by debit or credit card when completing the online process.

Cancellation of previous passport

It is indicated that, at the time of delivery of the new passport, the previous valid passport will be cancelled in the system. 

To be considered

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates that the passport requested online will retain the same class as the ordinary electronic or executive electronic passport and the biographical data of the previous valid passport.
