North Carolina, Raleigh – Mothers continue to enjoy a very special month, with some of them doing it twice.
So why not celebrate it twice?
“At home they already know. Mom is celebrating twice. On Sunday the 8th and Tuesday the 10th of May,” he told Enlace Latino NC María Inés, originally from El Salvador.
El Salvador, Mexico and Guatemala are three of the 10 countries that celebrate Mother's Day on May 10.
Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, India, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan and Singapore complete the nations where mothers are honored.
In El Salvador national holiday
According to history in El Salvador, in the 20th century, Mother's Day was celebrated on the second or third Sunday of the month of February.
However, it was not until 1983 that the then Constituent Assembly of the Republic of El Salvador (now Legislative Assembly) issued Legislative Decree number 205 dated April 29, by which May 10 was officially decreed as the Mother's Day.
But beyond the official date, in El Salvador it is a national holiday considered a day off.

Mother's Day in Guatemala, its origin
According to history, the origin of this commemoration coincides, on the one hand, with the Catholic religious celebrations that take place during the month in honor of the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus; and, on the other, with those of spring in the northern hemisphere, which celebrates flowers.
As in Mexico, in Guatemala, there were requests through the newspaper El Imparcial 1922 to celebrate Mother's Days on the same date that it had been declared in that country.
But the motion only had an echo in 1968, when by decree of the Congress of the Republic a special day was assigned to celebrate all the mothers of Guatemala.
Affection and respect for Mexican mothers
In Mexico, the beginning of this celebration dates back to April 13, 1922, the day the journalist and founder of the newspaper Excelsior, Rafael Alducin, launched a national call to choose a special date to pay tribute of affection and respect to Mexican mothers.
According to the newspaper El País, the response of Mexican society and the media was favorable, which led to Mexico becoming the first nation in Latin America to give well-deserved recognition to mothers on May 10, 1922.
Regarding the chosen date, information from the defunct National Council for Culture and the Arts of Mexico (Conaculta) indicates that May was selected for this celebration, since that is the month dedicated to the Virgin, while the 10th was chosen because at that time the country paid in tens.
