El summer is right around the corner and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) has numerous resources and available programs so that students continue learning and growing during the summer months.

Free transportation and food 

According to the CMS, transportation and food are provided at no cost for most programs, except for: Graduate on Time “Graduate on Time” and High School Credit Recovery “High School Credit Recovery”.

After summer vacation, students will return to classes for the 2024-2025 calendar, on Monday, August 26.

Read to achieve  “Read to Achieve” (RTA) 

CMS believes that all students should be reading at or above grade level by the end of third grade. The RTA camp will help students move toward reading proficiency, as well as with:

  • Physical challenges
  • Personalized small group instruction
  • Engaging materials along with explicit instruction and support

Grade Levels: Entering 3rd and 4th grade

Dates:  June 24 to July 31 (no camp during the week of July 4)
Hours:  Monday to thursday; 8:00 am- 3:00 pm

First Year High School Connection  Freshman Connection 

Students will be able to experience high school life during this transition program. This is what awaits you:

  • High School Orientation
  • CTE Routes
  • Graduate Plans (University College and Career Paths/Counseling)
  • Career and Workplace Preparation (CTE)
  • Fine Arts
  • Mathematics Preparation I

Grade Level : Entering 9th
Dates:  June 24 - July 25
1 session:  June 24 – July 11 (no session during the week of July 4)
2 session:  July 15 – July 25
Opening hours:  Monday to Thursday; 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Kindergarten Bridge  " KBridge” 

This program helps children get ready to enter kindergarten. This program will focus on providing that extra boost to develop the student's academic and social skills, so necessary for their success in life. Studies show that kindergarten provides a solid foundation of learning for all the years of school to come.

  • Learn through creative play
  • Reinforce at home what your child is learning at camp
  • Experience the world of literacy and mathematics to be prepared

Grade Level : Entering Kindergarten
Dates:  June 24 – July 25 (No camp during the week of July 4)

“PACE” Personalized Academic Command of English”  

This is an intense learning program, with impactful results. This program is focused on language development in English Language Arts (ELA). The student will also receive support in mathematics. This camp also offers art and technology, and will prepare the student for the next school year. 

Grade Levels:  entering 3rd to 5th grade
Primary dates:  from June 24 to July 25 (there will be no sessions during the week of July 4)
Opening hours:  Monday to thursday; 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

PACE Summer Language Academy Brochure – Elementary

Grade Levels:  Entering 6th through 12th grade
High School Dates:  from June 24 to July 25 (there will be no session during the week of July 4)

PACE Summer Language Academy Brochure – Secondary

Graduated High School on Time  “High School Graduate on Time (GOT)” 

The senior may be a few credits short of being eligible for his or her summer graduation ceremony. By enrolling in this program you will have the opportunity to complete your high school requirements and will be able to graduate at the end of the program. Parents should contact the student's school for more information.

High School Credit Recovery “ High School Credit Recovery”

The CMS offers students the ability to earn one unit of work or two make-up units of course work from new courses. Parents should contact the student's school for more information.

Reevaluation of End of Course and End of Degree  “End-of-Course and End-of-Grade  Reassessment " 

These standardized tests can create stress for fifth and eighth grade students, as well as high school students. Not all students score at a proficient level in literacy, mathematics, or science. This program allows students to receive support with the opportunity to retake the exam. The initial course grade, however, is not replaced.

Tutoring Outside of School Hours “ Out-of-School Time Tutoring” 

Students entering Kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible to receive virtual tutoring to make up missed instruction. Learn more here.

Equal Opportunities at School Summer Camp  “Equal Opportunity School Summer Bootcamp” 

Students will work together to develop the skills necessary to succeed in advanced courses, including document-based writing, organization, and self-advocacy.

Dates:  June 24 to 27; July 8-11 (no session during the week of July 4)
Opening hours:  Monday to thursday; 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
