North Carolina, Raleigh – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala has three consulates in the state of California for the attention of its fellow Guatemalans.
The Guatemalan consular headquarters are located in the cities of San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Bernardino; They provide service by appointment to Guatemalan citizens.

This consular headquarters offers Guatemalans information about the estimated times each of their procedures takes. In the case of Passports and Special Travel Passes it is 15 minutes. Other procedures such as Birth Registration or Marriage Registration take 30 minutes.

What procedures can Guatemalans carry out at these consular offices and what are the requirements?
The main procedures offered by the three consular offices are:
- Passport.
- DPI or Personal Identification Document
- Consular Card
Requirements:
Guatemala Passport
- Birth Certificate with CUI issued by RENAP with a validity of no more than 6 months from the date of printing or current Personal Identification Document DPI.
- Payment of $65 dollars through a money order that you must bring (at the Consulate the corresponding stamp will be stamped on you and you will be told where you should sign or place your name).
- If it is a passport renewal, you must present the original and a photocopy.
If the Passport is for a minor, the original and a photocopy of ONE of the following documents must be presented:
- Birth Certificate with CUI issued by RENAP with a validity of no more than 6 months from the date of printing of the minor.
- Payment $65 dollars, with Money Order that you must bring (at the Consulate the corresponding stamp will be stamped and you will be told where you should sign or place your name) or the current Personal Identification Document (DPI) of both parents.
If it is a passport renewal, you must present the original and a photocopy.
Personal Identification Document or DPI
- You must present the original and photocopy of the Birth Certificate with CUI issued by RENAP.
- Payment of $15 dollars with Money Order that you must bring (at the Consulate the corresponding stamp will be stamped and you will be told where you should sign or place your name).
Consular Identification Card
You must present an original and a photocopy of one of the following documents:
- Personal Identification Document DPI or Birth Certificate with CUI issued by RENAP with a validity of no more than 6 months from the printing date
- Payment of $25 dollars with Money Order that you must bring (at the Consulate the corresponding stamp will be stamped and you will be told where you should sign or place your name).
- As a recommendation from the Consulate, it is also requested to bring proof of address, whether it is a water, electricity, gas or telephone bill.
For each procedure, a money order is presented, and it is important to bring it with you since they are not sold at Consulates.
Recommendation not to carry out procedures through managers
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassies and Consulates, is the only one in charge of providing the data capture service for the issuance of personal identification documents.
The organization recommends not carrying out any procedure related to the consular headquarters of Guatemala through managers or private companies.
The request for personal identification documents is a personal process, so it cannot be done by someone else.
