Updated:  Colombian presidential elections for the second round: new polling place in Charlotte


Colombians living in North Carolina will be able to vote in Charlotte in the upcoming presidential elections, which will take place on Sunday, May 31, the official date of the first round.

In this article we tell you everything you need to know about the Colombian presidential elections in Charlotte:

What positions are elected?

In these elections, Colombians will be able to choose between 13 presidential candidates and their running mates for vice president.

Voting for Colombians abroad began on Monday, May 25, at consular offices, and will continue until Saturday, May 30. 

According to the Registry, there are 1.414.661 Colombians eligible to vote abroad, in 1,489 polling stations until May 30 and in 2,181 polling stations on May 31 distributed in 253 polling places in 67 countries.

Who can vote

All Colombians of legal age who have your registered ID at the consulate in Atlanta  To vote in Charlotte, they can do so.

In order to exercise their right to vote, Colombians must register your ID at the consulate corresponding to the state in which they reside, up to two months before election day. 

Required documents

Electoral authorities have reiterated that the only valid document for voting is the Colombian national identity card.

  • Yellow ID card with holograms
  • Digital ID card, either physical or from your cell phone

Passports, processing passwords, and other identification documents are not valid. 

Colombians check polling places
Colombians arriving at this polling station can verify their assigned table using their national identity card number on the lists displayed at the entrance of the precinct. /Patricia Ortiz

Where to check the voting station

Colombians can check their polling place on the National Registry's website. To do so, they only need to enter their national identity card number and complete the system's security verification. 

Subsequently, the exact address of the assigned polling center will appear, as well as the corresponding table number. 

For the Colombian presidential elections in Charlotte, you can check your polling station and assigned table at the Registrar's Office website.

Where will the election be held?

Voting in the Queen City will take place at the organization's headquarters: Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy , located at 5535 Albemarle Road, 28212, starting from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm .

Colombians who arrive at this polling station will be able to verify their assigned table using their ID number on the lists that will be visibly displayed at the entrance of the precinct. 

This is the ballot, which shows the 13 candidate options and their corresponding parties, as well as a box for a blank vote.

According to the Registrar's instructions, for the vote to be valid, an X must be marked on the photograph of the candidate of your choice and of their running mate for vice president, clearly showing your voting intention.
