North Carolina, Raleigh-  Salvadorans living in the United States have at their disposal 21 consulates and an embassy where they can process their consular documents. In this article we explain the steps you must follow to request an appointment at the Consulate of El Salvador in the United States.

How to make an appointment at the Consulate of El Salvador in the United States

Salvadorans must schedule an appointment on the El Salvador appointment portal: https://portalcitas.rree.gob.sv/ 

The procedures that can be carried out are: 

• Passport issuance
• Public deed or power
• Registration of family status acquired abroad
• DUI abroad
• AFP/Pension Procedure
• Documentation services
• Reschedule a previously requested appointment

Steps to make a virtual appointment at the Consulate of El Salvador in the United States

1. Create an account with an email
2. The system sends an email to activate the account
3. Back in the portal, you must: 

Step 1.  Select the consulate (country, state, consulate)
Step 2.  Select the procedure
Step 3.  Data of the person
Step 4.  Select date and time

Salvadorans can also get help through the Virtual Consulate by calling: 1-888-301-1130 or by WhatsApp: + 503-7070-1071.

The service is Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am to noon.

When you communicate, a virtual assistant will ask an option to help you:

1. Schedule Appointment
2. Requirements information
3. consular attention

If it is to schedule an appointment at the Consulate of El Salvador, the assistant will ask:

1. For which of the aforementioned procedures do you need it?
2. It will give the list of countries and you must select where you reside.
3. State
4. consulate

If the passport was selected as the procedure, the assistant will ask:

1. Passport for the first time
2. Passport renewal
3. Passport replacement due to theft or loss 

Then you must choose between two options:

1. Passport for minors
2. Passport for adults

The assistant will ask if you have a DUI

1. Si 
2. No

If you do not have the DUI, which is necessary to obtain the passport, the applicant must schedule an appointment to process it, either on the appointment portal or by calling the virtual consulate, option 4.

Requirements to process the passport

To obtain a passport for the first time for adults 

• Unique Identity Document (DUI) valid and in good condition. If you don't have it, here we tell you how to process it. .
• To cancel you must pay $60 USD.

For children or teenagers

• El Salvador birth certificate  recent original, no older than one year after it was issued.
• Be accompanied by both parents with their respective Identity Documents (DUI) that are valid and in good condition. If one or both parents do not appear, present specific notarial or consular authorization for the issuance of a passport.
• To cancel you must pay $60 USD.
