The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WSFCS) Newcomer Center will be closed during June while the transition to its new location is completed.
The center was located at Downtown School in downtown Winston-Salem, but is being relocated to the WSFCS Administrative Center at 475 Corporate Square Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
The Registration Center will resume operations around mid-July, according to information provided to Enlace Latino NC However, she will attend to families by appointment.
The New Student Enrollment or Registration Center is the entry point to WSFCS schools for new students attending from Kindergarten through Grade 12 who speak a language other than English at home.
“If the student speaks a language other than English at home, they must go to the Enrollment Center, where they will be given an English language proficiency test,” the school district website states.
The center provides:
- Language proficiency assessment and placement in ESL programs
- Translation and interpretation services
- Assistance in navigating the online registration process and orientation to the school system
How to enroll new students
The school district reported that if a family needs to enroll a new student in June, You must call: 336-727-8398 where bilingual officials will collect the information, which consists of: the name of the parents or guardian, the name of the student and a telephone number.
You can also provide the information by filling out the online form in Spanish.
With the information gathered, once the Newcomer Center is open, an official will contact the family to arrange an appointment.
Furthermore, it should be noted that the WSFCS administrative office will also be closed on Fridays from the first week of June until Friday, July 24.
During this time, the office hours will be Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm
