With live music, traditional dances, gastronomy and expressions of Latin American culture, El Centro Hispano announced the return of Durham Fiesta Latina 2026, a free festival that will take place on Sunday, August 2nd in Durham Central Park.
Organized by the Durham Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and El Centro Hispano, the festival celebrates the culture and diversity of the Latino community.
“Durham Fiesta Latina creates opportunities for families to come together while connecting with essential resources that help them thrive,” said Pilar Rocha-Goldberg, president and CEO of El Centro Hispano.
“We are especially proud to continue with our initiative to Back to Classes"We are ensuring that students begin the school year with the tools they need to succeed," he said.
Vibrant tradition
More than a cultural celebration, Durham Fiesta Latina brings together families, organizations, and community leaders each year to strengthen community ties and bring resources closer to attendees.
“Fiesta Latina is a bridge that connects Durham’s Parks and Recreation Department with our Latino community,” commented Rosalie Bocelli-Hernandez, community programs analyst in charge of outreach work with the latin community in DPR.
“What began as a celebration of culture "It has become a vibrant tradition that brings together hundreds of families each year to enjoy music, gastronomy, art and cultural experiences," he added.
In addition, Bocelli-Hernández referred to the growth of this event and its impact on the community.
“It is truly inspiring to see how this event has grown, strengthening relationships and creating a welcoming space where our diverse community comes together to celebrate, learn and connect,” she said.
Back to class
This year's edition will bring together organizations, artists, small businesses, and families to celebrate the latin culture and support the return to classes.
The festival will also include the annual back-to-school campaign of The Hispanic Center and Univision 40, which will give away backpacks and school supplies for children free of charge while supplies last.
Registration will not be required, although minors must be present to receive the materials.

Participants in Durham Fiesta Latina 2026 will be able to enjoy:
- Live performances by Latin musicians and folk dance groups.
- A variety of food trucks with authentic Latin American dishes, desserts, and drinks.
- Local artisans and small businesses will offer handmade crafts and cultural products.
- Interactive activities and games for children and families.
- The Mobile Health Unit of El Centro Hispano, which will provide free preventive health services and wellness information.
- Community organizations will share resources on education, health, family services, and other programs available in the region.
